Czech football title-holders Viktoria Plzeň could only manage a 0:0 home draw with Quarabag of Azerbaijan in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie on Tuesday night. A score draw or win in next week’s return leg would see Plzeň through to the final qualifying round for the prestigious competition. Sparta Prague, meanwhile, drew 1:1 at home with Romanian side Steaua Bucharest at the same stage of qualification.
In football, Sparta Prague midfielder Ladislav Krejčí is close to signing for Italian top league team Bologna, according to Sky Sport Italia. The broadcaster said Krejčí is currently undergoing a medical with a 108 million crown price tag for his transfer agreed. Italy would be the first foreign engagement for the player who has been part of Sparta’s first team since 2010. Last season, Bologna finished four points above the relegation zone in Serie A.
In football, former player for the Czech national team and one of the stars in the 2012 European Championships, Petr Jiráček, has been loaned to north Bohemian club Jablonec for the next year. Midfielder Jiráček has been playing for the last year for Sparta Prague after coming back from spells in the German Bundesliga for Wolfsburg and Hamburg. He made an impression previously at Viktoria Plzeň after being discovered at second division Sokolov.
