In tennis, Czech world No.2 Karolína Plíšková has failed to reach the
fourth round at the Australian Open. The world number was defeated by
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia 6-7, 6-7 in a match that lasted two
hours and 28 minutes.
The only Czech left in the singles competition is Petra Kvitová, who will face Maria Sakkari of Greece in the fourth round on Sunday.
The Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitová advanced to the third round of
Australian Open, beating Paula Badosa of Spain 7-5, 7-5. The seventh-seeded
Czech, who lost last year’s final to Osaka, will next face Russia’s
Ekaterina Alexandrova for a place in the fourth round.
Second-seeded Karolína Plíšková confirmed her strong recent form by advancing to the third round with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Laura Siegmund of Germany.
Another Czech, Karolína Muchová, lost in her second round match against Catherine Bellis of the U.S. 6-4, 6-4.
Karolína Plíšková won her second consecutive Brisbane International
title when she beat Madison Keys in a three-set final at the Queensland
Tennis Centre on Sunday.
The Czech world number two won 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in two hours, seven minutes on Pat Rafter Arena.
Plíšková's third Brisbane title in four years and her 16th on the WTA tour stamps her as one of the favourites for the upcoming Australian Open.
Czech tennis player Barbora Strýcová has parted company with her coach,
David Kotyza, after two years. The 2019 season was the most successful of
the 33-year-old’s career as she won the doubles title at Wimbledon and
also reached the semi-finals in singles at the All England Club. She is
currently world women’s doubles number one.
Strýcová announced the split from Kotyza on Instagram on Tuesday after defeat in the doubles final at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen.
Karolína Plíšková, the current world number two in womens’ tennis,
has chosen to part ways with former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martínez,
who has been a member of her coaching team since last year's US Open,
the Czech News Agency reported on Thursday, citing Plíšková’s manager
Michal Hrdlička as a source. Mr. Hrdlička said that the Czech tennis
number one will choose her new coach before preparations for the next
Ms. Plíšková, who has had several coaches throughout her career, wished her former trainer all the best into the future, but said that she wants to try to “move another step forward”.

season-ending WTA Finals in Shenznen.
In the final round on Sunday, the Wimbledon champions were defeated by the Franco-Hungarian duo Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic 6-1, 6-3 in one hour and five minutes.

Tennis player Karolína Plíšková won the Zhengzhou Open in China on Sunday beating Croatia’s Petra Martic 6: 3 and 6: 2, in a rain-interrupted final. The Czech player, top seed at the event, only dropped one set all week on her way to the title. The victory in the Zhengzhou Open is her fourth title this year and fifteenth overall in her career.
Karolína Plíšková has been knocked out in the fourth round of the US
Open in New York. The Czech third seed, who was wearing a bandage on her
left thigh, lost 7-6 3-6 5-7 to the UK’s Johanna Konta in a dramatic
match lasting almost two and a half hours.
Plíšková’s exit at Flushing Meadows means she will not become world number after the final Grand Slam tournament of the season. She would have been the top-ranked player if she had reached the semi-finals.
Karolína Plíšková has reached the fourth round of the US Open in New
York. The Czech third seed overcame the Tunisian player Ons Jabeur 6-1 4-6
6-4 on Friday. It is the fourth year in a row that Plíšková has made it
into the second week of the final Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Her compatriot Karolína Muchová was knocked out 3-6 2-6 in the third round by US star Serena Williams, a six-time winner at Flushing Meadows.
