Škoda Auto, in cooperation with the Czech Technical University (ČTU), has
started producing high-grade respirators using industrial 3D printers. The
carmaker said via Twitter it is now producing 60 pieces a day.
The respirators were developed by a team of researchers at the ČTU’S Institute of Computer Science, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC).
They are reusable, save filter material and as effective as the highest standard respirators now available on the Czech market (FFP3).
Britain is currently the Czech Republic’s fifth largest export market and a successful conclusion to post-Brexit trade negotiations is therefore a top priority for Czech diplomats. However, Czechs are also trying to tap in to new business opportunities in the UK and the British government’s promises to invest in its northern infrastructure and hospitals have been identified as potential new avenues for exports.
Škoda has announced the name of its first electric SUV. The latest Škoda model, which is still in development and should hit the market in 2022, has been named Enyaq. The name starts with the letter E symbolizing electromobility and ends with Q, which the brand uses in the names of all its SUV models. The name is derived from the Irish word enya meaning "source of life." Enyaq is the latest in a series of Škoda SUV models, following up on Kodiaq, Karoq and Kamiq.
The Czech Republic’s industrial production has declined for the first
time in five years: it suffered a drop by 3.4 percent in December, the
Czech Statistics Office reported on Thursday. The development was affected
mainly by a lower production of motor vehicles, other transport equipment
According to preliminary data, the country’s external balance in goods ended in a deficit of CZK 6.7 billion, which was worse by CZK 2.1 billion than in the previous year.
Exports decreased year-on-year by 2.4 percent to CZK 247 billion while imports fell by1.5 percent to 253.7 billion.
The car maker Skoda produced 910,000 vehicles in its three Czech plants in
2019, which represents a year-on-year increase of 2.25 percent, according
to an annual report sent to the ctk news agency.
Overall production was down by 0.9 percent due to a drop in demand on Chinese and Indian markets.
The company’s three Czech plants are in Mladá Boleslav, which manufactured 590,000 cars last year, half of which were the popular Octavias, as well as the Fabia, Scala, Kamiq a Karoq; in Kvasinky which specializes in SUVs and in Vrchlabí which produces car components.
Škoda Auto unions fear partial production of the Fabia model could shift
to Seat, a Spanish subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, with the departure
of that company’s CEO, Luca de Meo.
Production of the Superb model in the Czech Republic is also still in jeopardy, Škoda trade union head Jaroslav Povšík is quoted as in the union weekly, saying it may move to Turkey.
Škoda Auto is the biggest Czech car producer and country’s top exporter. It raised its domestic production by 2.5 percent to 670,156 cars in the first nine months of 2019.
Czech Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček completes his three-day official visit to India on Wednesday, during which he and his delegation primarily sought to strengthen mutual ties, especially in business. Martin Hříbek from Charles University’s Institute of South and Central Asia points out that while bilateral ties go a long way back, in many areas relations had to be rebuilt from scratch after 1989.
The Czech Republic is the seventh biggest exporter of fireworks in the
world, according to world business data. The country exports 10 million
dollars worth of fireworks annually.
The Netherlands is Europe’s top exporter of fireworks selling 52 million dollars worth of fireworks every year.
The Czech Republic is also one of the most lenient states when it comes to the sale of fireworks.
According to the CTK news agency there are currently 11 e-shops offering F-4 –the most dangerous category of fireworks which should only be handled by professionals.
