Archaeologists have discovered a 7,000-year-old trading station uncovered
in the course of extending the D11 motorway north of Hradec Králové,
Research is now focusing on an area just outside the town of Jaroměř, where pottery and stone tools from around 5,000 BC were earlier discovered, the news agency ČTK reports.
The D11 construction from Hradec Králové to Jaroměř will stretch for 25 kilometres and is 60 metres wide.
Other notable findings made along the route include Bronze Age houses and burial grounds and the remains of 18th century field fortifications.
Czech piano maker Petrof has had its most profitable year since the global
financial crisis, earning more than 12.5 million crowns in 2018.
Petrof said 90 percent of its sales come from abroad, with its pianos sold in 65 countries worldwide, including China, which has become its largest market. Domestic sales grew 55% compared to the previous year.
The Hradec Králové-based company has been making pianos since 1864. Petrof said it hired another 50 employees in 2018 to meet demand.

Among the attractions is an acrobatic show by the Latvian Baltic Bees group, flying L-39 Albatros planes, and a Ukrainian SU-27 fighter jet.
Hip Hop Kemp, the largest music festival of the genre in Central and Eastern Europe officially kicks off on Thursday night at the massive open-air site Festivalpark on the outskirts of Hradec Králové. But thousands of fans, including hundreds from abroad, particularly Poland, have already begun descending on the city. Along the way, scores have found themselves caught up in police searches for illegal drugs and contraband.
Organisers on Sunday unveiled a modern metal sculpture in Hradec Králové of the late architect Alexander Pur, who died in 2011. The work depicts the architect as a cyclist, near sites he helped renovate including the Klicpera Theatre or Beseda Theatre. Pur would have been 70 this year. The sculpture in his memory, located at the town's Malé náměstí, is by Tomáš Mišík.
The Social Democrats' biggest rival in the upcoming general elections will be the ANO Party, led by finance minister and millionaire businessman Andrej Babiš, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said during the party's regional conference in Hradec Králové on Saturday. Mr. Sobotka said the finance minister was using his money, the Agrofert company and the media to gain absolute power over the Czech Republic. He also added that Babiš was not a superman and could be defeated. ANO have been consistently ahead in opinion polls for some time.
The police’s organised crime squad raided the offices of the Hradec Králové Region on Thursday morning. The regional governor, Lubomír Franc, told reporters that investigation concerned a deal to renovate a hospital in the town of Náchod. Tenders for the reconstruction project were due to be opened on Friday but that process has been put back by a number of weeks. Mr. Franc said the police had also searched his home. A raid also took place at the head office of the company Zdravotnický holding in Hradec Králové.
The 2016 Architecture Grand Prix has gone to the studio Chmelík and Partners for the reconstruction of the White Tower in Hradec Králové. An international jury headed by architect Eva Jiřičná selected the project from 51 entries in the competition, run by the Society of Czech Architects. The jury said the reconstruction of the 16th century tower combined sensitive approach to its historical values with active use of the object. The 16th century tower belongs among the most significant historical sites in the city.
