Czechs to spend billions on flood prevention in coming years

The agriculture ministry said the Czech Republic would invest 4 billion Czech crowns in flood prevention by 2005. The investment will be covered partly from the state budget and from a loan from the European Investment Bank.

The investment will be covered partly from the state budget and from a loan from the European Investment Bank. After the disastrous floods in 1997, the country spent over 600 million on flood prevention and almost 5 billion on repairing the damage caused by flooding.
