2016 – 99th Segment: “Warranty Period”

In this series we present 100 songs which have gone down in the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. On Czech Radio’s web pages you can find a poll, in which you can vote for the best hit from the past century. We continue with the year 2016.

The 2016 Olympics took place in August in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Czech Republic won one gold (heavyweight judoka Lukáš Krpálek), two silver medals and seven bronze medals.

On November 13th, Czech tennis players Kvitová, Plíšková, Strýcová and Hradecká won the Fed Cup in Strasbourg 3:2 against France.

Seven time Olympic winner, Věra Čáslavská, passed away on August 30th.

Back in 2013, the group Slza, consisting of singer Petr Lexa and guitarist Lukáš Bundil, appeared on the Czech music scene. Their first single, “Warranty Period,” was released in 2014 along with a music video. It became the hit of the year… two years later.

In 2016, the band went on tour performing at more than eighty concerts, including at major music festivals. Their shows were quickly sold out and they attracted thousands of visitors. They are praised not only by their many fans, but also by music critics. Their debut album quickly went platinum and it was nominated in the Angel Music Awards.
