The Czech lower house of Parliament has approved a cabinet proposal that
would see medical marihuana mostly covered by public health insurance.
According to the proposal, which will now go to the Senate, insurers would cover 90 percent of the cost of for medical marihuana per month on a maximum of 30 grams per patient.
MPs rejected an amendment by Pirate deputy Tomáš Vymazal to make the payment 100 percent and set the monthly limit at 180 grams.

Since June 2017, when smoking in pubs, restaurants and other facilities was strictly banned, there were fewer people hospitalised with heart attacks or asthma. Experts say the effect of the ban on cancer can be assessed in about ten years’ time.
The National Public Health Institute’s data show that the number of smokers in the 15 to 19 age group dropped by 15 percent between 2017 and 2018. There has also been a drop in the number of young people aged 15 to 24 who start smoking.

The Czech Republic recorded the highest number of tick-borne encephalitis
(TBE) cases in the EU last year. In the whole of Europe, only Russia
recorded more cases of the potentially deadly disease.
There were 712 recorded TBE cases in the country last year, the highest number since 2011, a Czech member of the International Scientific Working Group on TBE (ISW-TBE) said in a press release on Thursday.
Only about one quarter of inhabitants of the Czech Republic are vaccinated against TBE, a low percentage compared to other EU countries. Within the bloc, the second-highest number of TBE cases was recorded in Germany, which has a population eight times larger.

The emphasis should be shifted from large psychiatric institutions to a network of mental health centres that would serve patients locally. The estimate is based on the steep increase of cases since the beginning of this year. Doctors have registered 366 case of measles since the start of the year, with sixty cases in the last week alone. There were 203 cases in 2018.
The increase is attributed to the fact that many parents are refusing to get their children immunized for fear of side effects. The Czech Immunization Association has warned that immunization of the population has now dropped below the protective threshold.
