The number of inhabitants in the Czech Republic rose by around 11,000 in the first half of the year to now stand just short of 10.565 million according to the Czech Statistical Office. One of the main factors in the increase has been immigration, but the numbers of births has also exceeded the number of deaths. Immigration counted for around 10,000 of the increase in population. Around 20,000 people came to the Czech Republic with around half that number leaving.
The Gypsy MaMa fashion brand is the work of a Czech NGO which has been very active in helping to improve the living conditions of several thousand Romanies living in one of the country’s biggest socially excluded areas known as the Brno “Bronx”. Gypsy MaMa was established to help young Romanies get a foothold on the labour market by harnessing their creative potential and giving them work experience. Czech interest in booking holidays in Tunisia and Egypt has been increasing. According to Czech tour operators, bookings to Egypt for September and October have increased by 50 percent compared with the same period last year, while bookings to Tunisia grew by 14 percent. The interest in Turkey, however, is low due to the security reasons. Greece still remains the most popular destination of Czech tourists.
