The Czech football goalkeeper Petr Čech lost the final game of his career
on Wednesday night when his club Arsenal were beaten 4:1 in the final of
the Europa League by his former team Chelsea. The 37-year-old made a couple
of important saves when Arsenal were still in with a chance and was seen by
many as their best performer.
Čech holds the record for number of international caps with the Czech Republic and collected numerous trophies and set goalkeeping records during a very successful period at Chelsea.
Football goalkeeper Petr Čech, who may well be the most famous Czech on the planet, will retire after a last appearance for Arsenal in the final of the Europa League on Wednesday. In a twist of fate, the game will be against Chelsea, the club with he won which virtually every prize going. To discuss his amazing career, I spoke to football journalist Karel Haering. He was first struck by Petr Čech in 2009 when he began appearing for Chmel Blšany at 17 – and offers this assessment of the qualities that took him to the top and kept him there.

Slavia Prague took a major step toward winning the Czech football league by
beating their nearest rivals Viktoria Plzeň on Sunday evening. The Prague
side’s 3:1 victory leaves them five points ahead of Plzeň. All the
game’s goals came after the 80-minute mark.
The match was part of a new “superstructure” in which the top, middle and bottom groups of clubs at the end of the regular season face one another in a round robin system. Sunday’s game was regarded as the toughest test for Slavia, who finished first after 30 rounds.

in the second leg of the Europa League semifinal between his London club,
Arsenal, and Spanish hosts Valencia.
In the first leg, the Gunners won 3-1 in London. The final will be played in Baku against the winner of the duel between Chelsea and Frankfurt.
Čech, 36, says he hopes that this – his last season on the pitch before retirement – will end in Baku. "I want to go to the final and raise one last trophy. I think Arsenal deserves it," he said.
Considered among the best goalkeepers of all time, Čech holds the Premier League record for fewest appearances required to reach 100 clean sheets.
