The former international ice hockey goaltender Adam Svoboda has died at the
age of 41. His death was confirmed by the club Pardubice, where he was a
coach. The news website iDnes.cz reported that he had committed suicide.
Svoboda made 32 appearances for the Czech national team and collected at World Champion’s medal in Vienna in 2005. He played for Pardubice and several other, mainly Czech, clubs.

The Czech hockey team finished last in the Carslon Hockey Games, the last of the four Euro Hockey Tour series between Sweden, Russia, Finland and the Czech Republic. In the final match of the tournament in Brno on Sunday, the Czech team lost to Russia 1-4. The Carlson Hockey Games were won by Sweden, but the overall winner of the series is Russia.
Třinec have won the Czech ice hockey Extraliga after beating Liberec 4:2
on Sunday evening to achieve the same result on games in the best-of-seven
final series of the competition’s playoffs.
It is the second time Třinec have lifted the title in their history and comes eight years after their first triumph. Liberec were losing finalists for the second year in a row.
