The Czech women’s doubles pairing of Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina
Siniaková have advanced to the semi-finals at US Open, after defeating
Elise Merten and Demi Schurs 2-6, 7-7 and 6-3.
The Czech team is just two wins away from a third straight Grand Slam title, after clinching victories at Roland Garros and Wimbledon earlier this year.
Karolína Plíšková has reached the fourth round at tennis’s US Open
for the third time in succession. The Czech player overcame Ashleigh Barty
of Australia 6-4 6-4 to set up a clash with local favourite Serena
Williams, who has 23 Grand Slams titles to her name.
The Czech women’s doubles pairing of Kateřina Siniaková and Barbora Krejčíková have also advanced to the fourth round in Flushing Meadows. After winning the French Open and Wimbledon the pair are the top seeds at the final Grand Slam tournament of the year.
The Czech Republic’s Karolína Plíšková has reached the fourth round
of tennis’s US Open in New York. The 26-year-old overcame the American
Sofia Kenin 6-4 7-6 to make it to that stage of the last Grand Slam
tournament of the year for the third time in a row.
However, Plíšková’s compatriots Barbora Strýcová and Karolína Muchová failed to make it out of round three at Flushing Meadows. Strýcová lost 3-6 6-7 to Elise Mertens of Belgium and Muchová, who was playing in her first Grand Slam tournament, was beaten 3-6 4-6 by Australia’s Ashleigh Barty.
Petra Kvitova advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open on Thursday,
defeating China’s Yafan Wang 7-5 6-3.
“It was a tough game. I lost it in the first set but was able to rally in time,” Kvitove told journalists.
The Czech, who is hoping for a third Grand Slam title, will next face 26 seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.
The Czech Republic’s Karolína Plíšková has made it into the second
round at the US Open in New York. The eighth seed overcame Zarina Diyas of
Kazakhstan 6-4 7-6 despite making eight double faults and suffering four
breaks of serve.
Plíšková’s compatriots Lucie Šafářová, Barbora Strýcová and Grand Slam debutant Karolína Muchová also made it through the first round on Monday.
The Czech women’s tennis number one, Petra Kvitová, has reached the
quarter-finals of the Connecticut Open in New Haven. Kvitová advanced
after overcoming qualifier Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan 6-1 5-7 6-2.
