More than one million tourists who visited the Czech Republic last year were accommodated via Airbnb, which is an increase by over 50 percent on the previous year. The number of Airbnb travellers in the regions outside of Prague increased even more significantly, by 108 percent. The data was released on Wednesday by Anita Roth, head of policy research at Airbnb.

The Czech government has moved to address one of the frequent woes of foreign tourists in the Czech Republic –losing money in a disadvantageous exchange rate transaction. Under the approved amendment to the Foreign Exchange Act, multiple exchange rates will no longer be allowed and clients will be able to withdraw from a disadvantageous transaction within two hours of making it.

It now predicts that around 600,000 Russians will visit the country. That compares with a drop to 548,000 in 2017. The record for Russian visitors was in 2013 when the total number of visitors was estimated at around 800,000.
One problem highlighted by the tourism office is the time taken to get visas, usually around a week whereas it is sometimes to three days in other countries.

Overnight stays by Czech residents rose by 9.5 percent with those by foreign visitors increasing by 9.0 percent. The total number of overnight stays totalled 10.8 million. The average length of stays has increased to 3.7 days.
The biggest boost in tourist stays was in the Plzeň region with a 22 percent annual increase and for the Central Bohemia region, where the figure was 17.2 percent.

Czech interest in taking domestic holidays is estimated to rise by around 20 percent this year. That interest has been boosted by higher local wages. South Bohemia and South Moravia are among the locations where tourism is expected to increase most, according to the website Hotel.cz.
Two Dutch nationals, charged with grievous bodily harm in an attack on a Czech waiter last weekend, have been remanded in custody while three from their group were given eight-month suspended sentences and were expelled from the Czech Republic for five years. The waiter, who had to undergo emergency surgery, meanwhile, is out of danger but still in serious condition.

re-open on October 28 on the occasion of the celebrations marking 100th
